Chameleons?

Image
Chameleons, are in fact, Chameleons. Not in what they are but in how they are a point of reference, an oftentimes derogatory one at that. "I was a chameleon." - A client in reference to mimicking behaviors. The same ones that interfered with his ability to grow as his own person. Chameleons are a distinctive and highly specialized clade of Old World lizards with 202 species described as of June 2015. These species come in a range of colors, and many species have the ability to change color.- Wikipedia circa 2018 What happens when what was originally meant to be an adaptive behavior, for we all adapt, turns into loss of self? When exactly is the threshold where a man, loses himself, takes on the qualities of the environment, and then suffers due to inauthenticity? If we all adapt and grow, then wouldn't being a chameleon, be a natural thing, like a good natural thing? There is a line that we all cross sometimes where an efficient behavior turns into a troubled one...

How to Live a Better Life (Part 2)

Image
The  flatter  lands outside of the Black Hills are full of culture. A culture that from my perspective and one that was made aware to me by a client I had years ago, is  ultimately  broken. It wasn’t just the free street dance a family of three eastern Nebraskaners wandered into, it wasn’t just the varying Casinos as soon as we entered the South Dakota border, it wasn’t just the faulty, cardboard cutout front of shiny buildings and what was sold as progress in varying areas, or the large BlackHills Gas building that made me take away something important. I wish I could isolate feelings to a single event. It would be great if life worked that way, just wish for one thing to be undone, and then the isolated problem would go away. Like Marty McFly undoing one thing to result in a happy ending. Only, that isn’t life, that isn’t, how does Drake put it, “God’s Plan?”    Life is more intricate than an isolated event, and even though there is typically a peak out a...

Loss of Assets.

Image
What do you gain from this one? What do you gain from the loss of the most valuable thing in your life? What do we gain but a shorter rope to death, a day nearer to the end of this human condition. Yes, the treatments are many, for we can eat these foods, increase workouts, decrease stress, have more sex, take these pills, however the end result is still the same, a failed attempt to extend both guanitity and quality of time. What one does with their time here is indiciative of the value they find in life. That thing that you never get back, there is no receipt, no court case that can demand large amounts of it in return for malpractice. There is no guarantee that you will get any more from the doing the aforementioned things. The things that you might not even want to do, but were instructed to.  For me, consuming, “heatlhy” foods does nothing more than assist in control of my eating, reducing impulsive and craving driven behaviors. I cannot eat the highly processed, nutrie...

Uncovering, not Discovering. (The Answer).

Image
"A bold move." Some will say.  "I don't agree, and F that guy pushing his views on me with a title like that!" Scream others.  "Ah, what a nice young man." Say those who might know of me, yet wouldn't read the post.  "I don't like his writing." As more scroll by with enough on their wall today to write their own books.  What are we missing here? Where is that Lego block we thought we had, misplaced, the piece of the puzzle, critical to the complete picture, we just can't find? What did we just spend four hours on, if not to finish this thing? Why did we wait until the last piece to figure out if there is even a possible conclusion?  Life is such an all expansive view of an entire existence summed into these four little letters. For some, they decide to equate their life to four larger, more adult letters, the first one s and the last t, yes, there it is. Whether we are choosing to have this s--t life o...

Less Self, More Promotion.

Image
A bit of sarcasm rings from the wall of Face as I read comment after comment indicating relevance. I am the most guilty, for I do not even produce organic material. Instead, I regurgitate partially digested pieces of information I have gathered from everything from C.S. Lewis, to the Bible, all the way to the new 2 Chains song. I am a fellow of many hats for I had learned to adapt early on in life. My authentic self now, a softer, milder, less-demanding version, for I no longer rely on your attention to complete me, combats the inauthentic or prideful self, daily, hourly in fact. Self-Promotion is not my strong point, however when a book is published and there were a lot of people involved in it's development, I owe it not only to me and the numerous hours of work and sacrifice, but to the researchers who contributed their time in both phone and email responses, a spouse and daughter whom received a more tired version of their man, the publisher who found the work and decided t...

Room Temperature.

Image
A common feeling among those with temperate climates. Inside that is. For those without the luxury of climate controlled indoors, that is merely temperature. Room temperature has another ring to it. A sense of commonality that all people who posses it can attest to. The degrees are around 70 in Fahrenheit, a not-too-cool, not-too-warm feel. A climate softer cheeses are ideal at, and meats are measured to spoil. If the temperature is much above the "room," then bacteria is therefore allowed to breakdown and make food rancid. The cooler, the slower the process. The room has nothing to do with it. The conditions contained within that room, walls and glass, with a floor and a ceiling, for if even one of those elements are missing, then the entire concept a bust. The temperature at one end of the room has to be the same at the other end, for it is the entire, "room's" temperature.  What is it about cliche phrases such as this one that people can relate to? ...
