Waste not...
The time it takes to read this, you could have done something else. You could have presented to someone and made a sale. You could have went for a brisk walk around the block, for this I will make it quick, maybe half a block. You could have done what you've always done and continue scrolling through social media waiting for that one thing to distract or entice just enough that you can feel satisfied. The internet has no end, but my words do. Well, inspired words I must confess.
Rarely do we get ideas on our own, for our entire life we are saturated with environmental conditions we have to understand and adapt to. We have to learn and grow for our individual environments. Learning about and playing into social media is some people's new Siberian tiger trying to eat them. their new reality. People need to adapt and learn the lay of the land as they navigate through the treacherous waters perceived as social expectations.
I am slightly older than that, not much, but enough to see around it. It exists and I will admit I am jealous and at times have attempted to portray a social media "influencer." I too get saturated by the desire to be heard and the justification that I am promoting something good and healthy. However, in the end, my wretched self gets a little disappointed when I get two views or three likes.
I remind myself how much I too crave attention and at times expect it when I "put myself out there," only to get a minimal reaction. However, this is all very selfish on my part, for who am I to expect anything from anyone, and who am I to think that the God of the universe wrote before the creation of earth that I would get 20 likes? Who am I overall, that you should listen or take the time to hear what I have to say? I have clients that do, but many are court ordered and have little choice if they want the freedom that comes after hearing me drone on for an hour.
Such a relief it is to be nothing, nobody, to be an insignificant person in the world full of personalities. I mean, we do realize that castles and great works of architecture are still standing because the foundation, the unsung heroes of the land, stand firm? We do realize that quarterbacks do so well because of a great offensive line? We do realize that the brain gets all the glory, but without a liver it can do nothing? Therefore I say, be the nothing. Be the vapor in the wind, a puff of smoke. Oftentimes the ones who think they are relevant fall the hardest when they are no longer heard or liked.
Ladies, on a personal preference, you may get 100 or even 1000 likes for a butt photo, and say it is for the accountability to yourself, but to the guys that liked it, it is free pornographic material. Hey, I too am guilty, for I have played the selfie, shirt off role. Each person can justify their own behavior as much as they want, but if a truth offends, then it is most likely something you already knew and were scared someone would find out.
Love has a funny way of being heard no matter what. When you love, that goes with people even when the social media no longer gets likes, when nudy photos get old. Love is felt and experienced, not in a photo as people try to capture in, "love them," but true love exists in us and around us if we allow ourselves to feel it.
One of the only Bible verses I was able to memorize as a child, turns out to be the most significant and life-defining ones,
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." -John 3:16.
God paid and Jesus performed a high price for our lives, let us work together and hold each other accountable to this truth rather than getting lost in the tidal wave that is a here today, gone tomorrow society.
From one wretch to another, God Bless.
