Recognition?
Recognition-
1. the action or process of recognizing or being recognized, in particular.
Or, as a move towards favoritism, or to alleviate guilt, one can recognize another. To recognize initially meant to indicate someone did something outstanding, recognizable more than others, a contributor to the cause. Now, nothing more than a way to justify an organization or purpose, without carrying the weight being "recognized" once held. Now it is a sham of which the receiver is supposed to gain enough. something, to shut them up, have others strive for it, and the organization look good because they, “recognized” or are the “organization willing to give X amount of effort to some cause."
Cynic?
Look past who gets recognized and the upward to the organization getting the recognition. What are they getting out of it? Something I ensure you. At a job I held for a Medicaid insurance company, it was favorable to give three recognitions per month, almost a mandate to ensure people said nice things.
A mandate to give recognition?
Much like a yearly award winner one could inquire that if an organization fails to recognize someone, are they doing their job, and what made them fall out of favor with that detail? One can only go backwards when they stop doing well. There is no parallel, there is only good, giving, recognizing, then fading into oblivion, allowing for people to make the story something juicy.
Recognition, can also be a settling where one could have done more, went further, and strove higher, until the environment cut them down, had them state that what they have done is, “enough” and yet, who knows where they would have gone without this accepting of complacency. One can only go backward remember. Once one is at the peak, or assumed peak, by getting recognized then where else is there? Back.
The academy Award goes to… as the people wait anxiously for the acknowledgement by this anonymous, “academy” to tell the world what non-money making, oftentimes, shock films are what we should have been watching. Setting an obligation now and an increase in volume for the sales that once were where they most-likely deserved. Odd how certain favorites are always the top of the nominations. After all, the “academy” is made of people. People have bias, and people are also influenced. Maybe Tom Hanks is the best actor in the world, or maybe he is Tom Hanks, maybe they are not the same.
The award for the best chili goes to… then what? You won an award for a craft, a hard fought victory based on palate preferences. A victory determined by people. People influenced by other people, and maybe a fart wafted by as the people tasted the other chili thus deeming the victor at the right place, right time. Now the next year, can that same winning chili not win again? How long once the formula is set can a chili win before the award is no longer a status, but a judge changes out, preferences with it, and the winner is…. Someone else.
The Pulitzer Prize, how dare I. How dare I have the audacity to attack the, “Pulitzer committee.” They are an astute group of individuals, with nothing to gain mind you, uh hem, we all gain when we vote. We gain the right to complain, or our candidate wins. Either way, and more now than ever, they both carry a weight. The right to do or not to do, that is the question, the answer is based on what that person wanted. People may want another’s work recognized so they can be the loser, so they can justify their poor attitudes or their yelling in the streets, their attack on someone else. You tell me, maybe if those talking heads on the news had everything they asked for, would they be out of a job, no longer have anything to complain about? No, because then they could complain about the complainers, even if they won. Complain about a rock that flipped over.
To the victor goes the spoils, but to the one who appointed the victor goes all the other victors for they bow to the grace of the agency, break their backs for it, suffer in pain because of what the one who offers the, “award goes to.”
Think for yourself, think about when you do your best work. Think about how you perform the best when you are driven by you, not an award, and how being recognized can dismay or peak a career that was only climbing. Maybe losing was the best thing that ever happened to someone. Maybe the loss of self or ego, pride-driven need to acquire accolades only understood by others in the same circle, is the most horrid thing a person could do long-term.
Castle-Broken: When appearances are everything. Available Here. A book, I won no award for, received no recognition because it shouldn't have. I wrote the book for you, and for those who suffer from a body image disorder, as a way to know you are understood, not broken, and have been now given the gift of self-awareness many people look to for leadership.
God Bless.
