Infidelity.

Image
Infidel- as a noun, a person who does not believe in religion or who adheres to a religion other than one's own. I don't get it.  As I sat in the court room, looking at the judge, prosecutor, county attorney. I couldn't understand the "vibe" I was feeling in relation to the well being, of a convicted man. When one gets a taste of the privilege, of a situation they think ought to be more prestigious, more enlightened than their own, there is no place left to go with expectations, but a crashing downward spiral as reality rears its ugly head. "Well, we could discuss the instance where the guy said...." I cannot give details, for these conversations were something, "privileged" however, the depth of text was lacking. The feast turned into a Country Buffet line of which there was no meat, only a plethora of cheap breads, followed by frozen, sweetened-milk, (definitely not ice-cream) for dessert. I expected to come into this back court...

A Book Report for the Ages.

If all experienced God in the same way and returned Him an identical worship, the song of the Church triumphant would have no symphony, it would be like an orchestra in which all the instruments played the same note. - C.S. Lewis, The problem of Pain The Old Testament, full of grotesque stories, wretched, horrible incidents, sacrifice, killing, animal sacrifice and many, many verses dedicated to the specific way and how and where to atone for wrong against the Law set forth by God himself. The Old Testament, as I see it now, was in fact, about sacrifice. I will venture a bit further and state that the entire Bible, human existence actually, is about human sacrifice. A preacher ordained in theology can break down certain sections of the historically accurate text known as the Bible. There are many intricacies and contextual components about the time and history of the timeline laid out. There are pieces that are read and read again, only to have them make sense at one time more...

Chameleons?

Image
Chameleons, are in fact, Chameleons. Not in what they are but in how they are a point of reference, an oftentimes derogatory one at that. "I was a chameleon." - A client in reference to mimicking behaviors. The same ones that interfered with his ability to grow as his own person. Chameleons are a distinctive and highly specialized clade of Old World lizards with 202 species described as of June 2015. These species come in a range of colors, and many species have the ability to change color.- Wikipedia circa 2018 What happens when what was originally meant to be an adaptive behavior, for we all adapt, turns into loss of self? When exactly is the threshold where a man, loses himself, takes on the qualities of the environment, and then suffers due to inauthenticity? If we all adapt and grow, then wouldn't being a chameleon, be a natural thing, like a good natural thing? There is a line that we all cross sometimes where an efficient behavior turns into a troubled one...

Make-Believe

Image
Saturday Night, the first day of Autumn. A cool evening where the patio door to the outside can be left open. One where the crisp air serves as a subtle reminder why we don't wish for too cold of weather too soon. I mean, it is easy to say we want cold in the midst of summer, or the 90-degree weather this past week, but here, there is a chill.  The TV showing Daniel the Tiger, a spin-off from the great Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood. It teaches lessons. This one is about trusting adults to help. I can't remember the words to a song about seeking  adults to help , and I just spent ten minutes for the sake of clarification to find them, all futile. Nonetheless, the communication in the show was from adult to child and vice versa, yet, one thing stuck out when the child talked to the adult, "make-believe."  Daniel presented something he thought of doing through allowing the audience to look into his mind, and see what he was thinking. One of those depictions that shows ...

Throw it Up!

“I hate peas.” As my wife stirs the vegetarian ravioli inside the deep skillet. “I mean, why do they have to put peas in there, just because it’s vegetarian?” Silence   As I am writing this it just dawned on me that peas have pea protein, and for vegetarians maybe besides the cheese in the ravioli, it was a protein source, ahhh…   I am going to make my own vegetarian meal, eggs, butter, and spinach leaves. The time is 5:45 PM. As one last episode of Bob’s Burgers, plays in the background, a familiar phrase indicates the show's closing, my wife and I prepare dinner to continue with this habit of “dinners together.” I personally love it. Even if most of the food we make for our 2-going-on-30 daughter goes in the trash, it is so nice to sit together for even five minutes. A lot of work, but nice. “This is nice” my wife confirms my own thoughts, challenging my acceptance for comfort and fighting the desire to throw in a sarcastic joke. An old tendency to ruin that which is pure, ...

Mr. Skinny Legs

Image
(flick) Light comes on, synonymous with a vent fan. My movements, quick. I time the morning just right to get all that I can done all by the minute. One variable, any instance of unaccounted for time, I will be late to work. (Flap) Opens shower curtain. "Jeeze, look at that!" A spider, a "Mr. Skinny Legs" as our favorite cartoon pig in this house refers to. I can't help but find the humor in the fact that in one episode of the infamous, Peppa Pig, Daddy Pig, makes a claim about how he likes spiders, until he meets a large one. Then he goes to get Mommy Pig. If those were the rules, then I should go upstairs now, wake my wife from her slumber, and let her deal with this thing. He is a large spider, probably one of those, "wolf" spiders, which are any other spiders I see here in Nebraska besides Daddy Long Legs. Names of spiders are not a specialty, however if they are poisonous or not is. I do know there are spiders that are poisonous with...

Babel

I shouldn't be able to write and publish these words. Honestly, they are more clatter to an already loud world. Noise or noisy by the very context is contributing to the pollution of the environment. Even words that are meant to be read, not spoken cause noise. I saw the news report, I see the words float across the screen while in a public area, all the while listening to my own music. Yet, these quiet words have never been so loud. Trust is a concept that people take for granted. We trust without acknowledging it. We don't always take a bold stance when we trust, but by trusting, we are being bold. When someone gives us information and we are to trust them as a source, internalize the message, and then live with those words in our mind, there is no greater stance, no more boldness than the trust we give the source. Unfortunately, that trust that tends to come naturally, or found in nature, may not be trustworthy. Maybe Lisa is a gossiper, a liar, a manipulator of truths. ...
