Spit it Out.

This world is oftentimes like a piece of gum. When the gum is taken in, it is so sweet and fills the mouth with flavor, for nothing is like a good piece of mint gum after a meal. This gum however, becomes a burden when we chew it for too long. Yet, oftentimes the obligation to continue chewing past the pleasurable part keeps us in misery. We hold on to the movement of this formless wad between our teeth, and yet all flavor and thus pleasure is gone. We think to put another in, and then another, for if two tastes good, imagine three.

The pleasures of this world, the promises to satisfy our needs sadly fall very short. I only say sadly because that after all is where most people waste their time, me included. Yet, we know the truth inside that we are meant for more than this world, that we have a higher standard, and that we aren't born good. We are sinners who fail to do the right thing, think the right thing, and perform to at least some kind of moral compass everyday. We know this, know ourselves, our judgments, our wrongs, yet we cover them up, justify them, fail to accept that it is us who are wrong from the bottom to the top.

Yes, we are failures, wretches within and we are told from the environment that we are good, just wrong in our assumptions of the world, or that we are in the wrong environment. The problem therein lies that when people fail to see how wrong they are, it is not the person choosing to chew the gum for so long, but the gum's fault for losing flavor. We are choosing to deny that it is us who is chewing the gum that is causing us to suffer. We are not inherently good people, for even the most casual of Christian believers will tell you that "all have sinned and fallen short" (Romans 3:23) therefore we have to admit our wrongness before we can receive the gift of salvation.
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned"- Romans 5:12
Nonbelievers honestly live by a code of cover up. Nonbelievers deny the very basic truth that Jesus is Lord, our only salvation, much due to ignorant pride interfering. Pride prevents humility, the more pride or the more offense one takes to being called inherently evil, the more shallow the person and the more need to present. Admit you are a wretch, get down to it, for it is time to get on with the saving.

The act of sin is brought from the nature of a sinful person, sin is evil, therefore man, is inherently evil.

I have thought differently once in my life as well, justifying that God made man, and He did not make an imperfect creature, much less an evil one. However, man was created by God, but sin was brought about by man. Free-will has this way of showing to God what He refuses to take, our submission to Him. However in his sovereignty, He calls us to be His children, thus we are neither good people, nor did we choose salvation. It is the nature of the lost to again find argument with the words, an aversion to the truth. It is the sign of the meek or "last" who are called to be "first" in the Kingdom of God (Matthew 20:16) that will agree.

To admit that man's gum is the reason for this man's problem and not the man is a contributing factor to why change never really occurs. If man is inherently good and therefore it is the environment's problems, of course you will call for gun control after a shooting, condoms in school after pregnancy, encourage abortions to those who are raped. We are supporting the evil with evil control instead of individually addressing the fact of guilt that one was wrong and is wrong and there is only one way out.

Like I try to teach my daughter, she is not the most important person in the world, and she has to admit when she was wrong, and ask forgiveness. I am wanting her to know humility, for it seems to be the pride that is the origin of all sin. Admitting wrong and asking forgiveness is so hard for her to do and it constantly reminds me of myself with God. I too have a difficult time admitting that I am nothing and that my ideas are not mine or always right, and the only good I have comes from Him who allowed me and inspired me through a life only He could plan. I am humbled by the realization that I am a wretch and that He willed me to know Him. God is in charge, I am not. The best thing we could do within our own lives would is to stop wasting time on "self-worth" and instead admit what we really are, that way we can get on with accepting the gift of salvation.
“Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will"- Ephesians 1:4-5.
Jesus did die for our sins, we are forgiven, but like small children, we fail to admit fault and kick and scream ourselves into a horrible life. Spit the gum out, admit wrong from inside, and seek the only truth that matters.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." - Proverbs 1:7
